Common Questions

Is powder coating better than paint coating?

Powder coating is a superior choice for fabrication projects compared to paint. It typically lasts longer and is more cost-efficient. Achieving the perfect finish for your metal product is feasible with the right powder coating techniques.

What is the durability of powder coating?

Powder coating offers great durability for your project. Various powder mixtures make it resistant to scratches. The powders bond to the metal with an electrostatic charge and are then cured, resulting in thicker coats than paint.

What should be done if powder coating gets damaged?

Powder coating can start to chip after significant wear and tear. Touching up with paint is possible but less reliable than powder coating. For chipped or rusting powder-coated products, it’s best to have a new coat professionally applied. Typically, powder coats last between 10 and 20 years, so this is a rare issue.

Why Choose Powder Coating

Materials

Our powder coating can be applied to different materials, including mild steel, aluminium, and galvanised steel. Stainless Steel can also be powder coated following a light surface abrasion.

Custom Colour Options

Metal-Tech Industries offers a broad spectrum of colours for you to choose from. If the perfect match isn’t available, we can help you create a custom colour to get the vibrant finish you need.

High-Quality Finishes

With powder coating, the surface of your product will stand out. The technique provides a thicker coat than others, resulting in a tough, scratch-resistant, and rust-resistant layer.

How the Process Works

Our powder coating process is comprehensive, ensuring each step meets your specifications. Products are placed on a conveyor, facilitating smooth transportation through every stage.

Pre-Coating Preparation

The first part of powder coating your products is preparation. We use a chemical process to clean the material, removing any dirt, corrosion or other imperfections. Chemical cleaning of the material is a crucial part of the powder coating process.

Priming

Our next step is to prime the surface of your product. This helps to smooth the surface to allow for an even application of the powder.

Applying the Powder Coat

We apply the powder coat to your product’s surface using spray guns. The powder is electrostatically applied across the entire surface.

Final Curing

Once the powder coat is applied, the product is moved by the conveyor to the curing oven. This critical part of the process bonds the powder coat firmly in place.
